Hope fulfilled for mum told she had 5% chance of having a baby

A woman who was told she had just a five per cent chance of becoming a mum has spoken of her joy after beautiful baby daughter Hope arrived.

Rosalind Baynton feared she would never get pregnant after suffering from a miscarriage and serious medical conditions.

The Birmingham woman, who had hit her 40s, and husband Matt, 35, had almost given up after years of trying to start a family.

After the horror of a miscarriage, the would-be-mum was hit with the shock diagnosis that she had polycistic ovary syndrome (PCOS) – a condition that can stop women’s periods, increase their risks of miscarriage and result in weight gain.

With time ticking and one round of failed IVF treatment under their belts, the couple agreed to give up if the third cycle didn’t work.

She now wants to give hope to others after her 17-week-old daughter Hope arrived on July 25. “I was seeing various consultants after my miscarriage and nobody diagnosed me with PCOS,” Rosalind, now 41, said.

“They just kept saying it was one of those things and by the time I was diagnosed with the condition I had missed the chance to get IVF on the NHS because I was over 39.

“I drove my husband and myself insane reading websites and forums on the internet and looking at statistics that said my chances of getting pregnant from IVF were only five percent.

“There were times when we thought it might never happen.”

But then the surgical sales specialist at a woman’s health company turned to old friend Sabah Baghdadi, a consultant gynaecologist at Birmingham BMI Priory Hospital.

“He told me I had enough eggs to populate Birmingham, but they just weren’t of good quality,” Rosalind added.

“It did cost me a lot of money, but Hope was definitely worth every penny.”

Mr Baghdadi said: “Rosalind had a resistant PCOS which made it difficult to stimulate her ovaries.

“We carried out a procedure to help stimulate her ovaries and then recommended that she followed this up with IVF treatment. Fortunately for Rosalind and Matt, everything went very well.

“So well that I was delighted to have been invited to Hope’s christening – an event I wouldn’t have missed for the world.”
